Monkey Brothers
May 31, 2007Annoying little monkeys.
How satisfying
To wrap and tie
their skinny legs.
And pop their
Noisy heads off
When they will not go to bed.

Peacock Sister
May 31, 2007
I love you
Peacock sister.
Green,
Bejewelled
And beautiful.
Shimmering and soaring;
Urged on by love and faith.
Racing, scaring, scattering
Dirty, dusty mongrel doubts.
You stop,
Wait,
Cannot hear my reassurance.
You are lost,
Muddled, scared.
Returning to the dusty doubts
You fear.
Chased and scattered,
Bruised and netted,
Like a mongrel
Slung away.
Carelessly impounded
Without love.
Crying out,
I cannot stop it,
Beautiful sister
Please come back.

Haiku in 30 Minutes
May 31, 2007Fragrant blooming buds
Pink coral bells erupting
Rabbit’s gourmet food
Pale yellow carpet
Living room decor complete
Glass of red wine spills.
Baseball slices foul
Opponents lose their home run
Stray ball smacks my face.
Slip boat from dockside
Breeze blows boat across the bay
Lightning streaks the sky.
Shrill screech from traffic
Pick-up smashes my car door
Skunks cross busy street.
Wet-suit beach bums grouse
Icy snows blow in from sea:
Jealous polar bears.

Can I Keep It?
May 30, 2007After several months hanging out here at Riversleigh, I finally discovered that I could post my own little catagory. I know this fact has been staring me in the face the whole time, but what can I say, my observation skills were lacking.
I took a photo of this little Polish squirrel at a park in Warsaw a couple of weeks ago. Actually, I stalked him until he relented and ran up a tree to sit for the picture. Afterward he threw something at me from the tree as I turned to walk away. He was so cute and fiesty that I wanted to take him home. So, I’m bringing him with me to Riversleigh.

Haikus and more
May 29, 2007The past few weeks, I’ve been teaching an on-line journaling class. One of the exercises involved hiakus, and I got some wonderful responses. I asked for permission, and posted some of them. Enjoy them!
If you arrived in Lemuria because you got laid off, fired, or quit your job, here is a chance to talk about it. I came up with the idea after I heard someone getting fired while I was eating breakfast in a small town just south of the Murmuring Woods, outside the protection of Lemuria.
And for the motorcycle riders who brought their wheels to Riversleigh, let’s take a ride–my new bike just got here. But I’m still serving refreshments. To celebrate both seasons–early winter and early summer, I’m making curry cookies. They are bright yellow from the curry, delightfully fragrant and pack a bit of heat, as well. Maybe I’ll make up some mango lhassi to go with them. Stop by Quinn’s Art loft for a visit!

Busy in the Art Loft
May 25, 2007The practice of daily writing is connected to the practice of daily thinking. It’s exhausting! I’ve taken a break from making art to think through some ideas. For years, I made things to sell at art fairs. As the clients dribbled away, I lowered my prices and adjusted what I made. Then I quit doing art fairs and decided to create fewer pieces, ones that really were meaningful, and charging accordingly. Knowing they wouldn’t necessarily sell like hotcakes, I discovered gallery representation (at least a possibility of it) and am pursuing that. What does this have to do with thinking?
Not working on art has given me time to think through things I run across during the day and write about them. Different kind of creative work.
Here’s what I’ve been up to:
I’m creating an online journaling class for perfectionists. (The class on one-sentence journaling is going so well, I decided to expand!) I had to think about my recovery from perfectionism.
While out of town running a training program, I overhead a man getting fired at breakfast. It can happen to anyone who thinks their job is secure.
In the place where I was running the training program, there are those creepy motivational posters. What are they for, anyway?
In the yahoo groups, someone mentioned she was moving (I didn’t ask to use her name, so I’m not mentioning it here), and asked how you decide what to take and what to leave. I can’t answer the question, but it was worth exploring further.
In the US, this is a holiday weekend, where we memorialize the war dead. I only wish there weren’t so many. For all who are stepping out of Riversleigh–be safe and have fun! For those of us who are staying–I’m so pleased that so much is being posted, even if i can’t find it all! I love wandering through the hallways and discovering open doors with color pouring out!
