Eric’s Visit

May 7, 2007

Today is the first day of Eric Maisel’s visit to the Art Loft. The interview today is about the purpose of his book Ten Zen Seconds. He talks about the technique and why he developed the specific incantations.

Tomorrow, Eric will talk about some of the incantations some of my creativity coaching clients had problems with and why these incantations are particularly good for writers and artists. Tomorrow’s interview will be published at one minute after midnight, Eastern Daylight time in the U.S.

But other things have been going on the the Art Loft. I had a great experience with an editor, and thought you might enjoy hearing how listening to an editor can be a positive experience, even if she IS only half your age!

If you have read Rhonda Byrne’s book,  The Secret, or seen her on the Oprah show, you’ll know she sees the universe as a genie who can bring you whatever you want. I don’t agree with her OR Oprah. And I don’t expect everyone to agree with me. I’d want a universe-as-concierge, too.

And, finally, I’m back on the topic of luck, which I don’t believe exists. You either work for what you want, or you don’t. Hard work doesn’t guarantee success (Even Goethe knew that when he said, “The Arbeit ist nich immer mit Erfolg gekroennt.” –Hard work is not always crowned with success) But you won’t get anywhere just by luck.

Because there is so much to cover, I’m making roast-beef-and-brie sandwiches for the group. We’ll also have grapes and apples, and I brought home some incredible passion-fruit tea from Sedona. It’s great hot or cold, and we’ll have both. Join me for Eric’s visit!

  1. Two questions: Did you get your film back yet?

And can you hold the roast beef on my sandwich and just give me the brie and toast? Vegetarian, ya know.

I’ll bring some pomegranate juice; now to go read your posts…

  2. I’ll take Mari’s roast beef! Wolves are not vegetarian. Boy, Quinn, you’ve been busy lately. I’ll be interested to read tomorrow’s piece, too. The idea of ten zen seconds has me intrigued.
