We stopped at Silver Plume (an old mining town) yesterday long enough for me to take some photos of the narrow guage engine they have there for the Georgetown Loop Railroad. (Georgetown is another old mining town in the mountains here.) I snapped photo after photo as they put the engine in the engine house for the night. I would love to ride it someday, but for now, photos of the train will have to do. This morning I played with this one in Photo Shop, and came up with this:

Occasionally it comes out of the drawer, this really spent old ballet slipper. My last pointe shoe, I only kept one, so I would not even try again, once over, a thing should be done with. Stoically as I try to approach the past, this memory, kept well and alive in the drawer, takes me in hand and opens a flood off feelings, loss, joy, the sense of flight only dancers and birds know.
So I put the shoe on the foot, and sat a while.
